See What Our Customers Say About Our Work
A heat pump and underfloor heating system must be planned to work together.
We take the time to assess the property, explain the available options and coordinate the floor heating with the planned heat source.
From the first quote to the final commissioning, the team installed our underfloor heating without any fuss. Every room heats evenly now, there are no cold spots, and it's freed up all our wall space. Genuinely first-class work.
We had underfloor heating fitted throughout the ground floor and couldn't be happier. The installers were tidy, on time, and explained how the zone controls and thermostats worked before they left. Highly recommend them.
Really pleased with our new underfloor heating. Good advice on the layout and a clean, professional fit under the new floor. Only reason it's not five stars is the job took a day longer than planned, but the end result has been excellent.
Outstanding from start to finish. They assessed the floor build-up properly, recommended the right underfloor heating system for our home, and the installation was seamless. The whole house is warm underfoot now and it runs beautifully.
Brilliant service and great value. Our underfloor heating was installed with minimal disruption and the engineers were polite and knowledgeable throughout. Lovely warm floors and a cosy home — exactly what we hoped for.
Plan Your Heat Pump Underfloor Heating in 3 Steps
From the initial assessment to final commissioning, we help ensure the underfloor heating is suitable for the property and compatible with the planned heat pump.
1. Tell Us About Your Property
Send us your floor plans and information about the property, insulation, floor construction, planned floor coverings and proposed heat pump.
Room-by-room heat-loss calculations should also be provided where available.
2. We Design the Underfloor Heating
We plan the heating zones, pipe layouts, manifold position, circuit lengths, pipe spacing and controls around the property’s heating requirements.
We also consider the operating temperatures expected from the heat pump.
3. We Install, Test and Commission
The underfloor heating is installed according to the agreed design before being pressure-tested and prepared for connection to the heat source.
Once the complete heating system is ready, the controls, flow rates and heating zones can be set and commissioned.
Underfloor Heating Designed to Work With a Heat Pump
Heat pumps generally operate most effectively when they can supply heat at a lower water temperature. This makes a properly designed wet underfloor heating system a suitable heat distribution option for many properties.
Underfloor heating uses a large floor area to distribute heat throughout a room. It can therefore provide the required heat without depending on the higher water temperatures commonly associated with traditional radiators.
However, installing underfloor heating does not automatically guarantee that the property will be suitable for a heat pump.
The system must be designed around:
- The calculated heat loss of each room
- The insulation and airtightness of the building
- The available heated floor area
- The floor construction
- The selected floor coverings
- The intended operating temperature
- The heat pump’s output
- The number and use of heating zones
We assess these details before recommending the system layout. This helps ensure the floor can provide enough heat at a suitable water temperature.
Why Does Underfloor Heating Work Well With a Heat Pump?
Heat pumps and underfloor heating can complement each other because both can be used as part of a low-temperature heating system.
Large Heat-Emitting Area
Underfloor heating uses most of the available floor surface to distribute warmth. Radiators use a much smaller surface area and may require hotter water to provide the same room output.
Lower Operating Temperatures
A suitable underfloor heating system can operate with lower water temperatures than many traditional radiator systems. The required temperature still depends on the property, floor construction and heat loss.
Even Heat Distribution
Warmth is spread across the floor instead of entering the room from one or two radiators. This can provide more consistent temperatures across the occupied space.
Individual Heating Zones
Separate thermostats and heating circuits allow different rooms or areas to be controlled according to how they are used.
Suitable for Well-Insulated Homes
Modern, well-insulated properties generally have lower heating requirements. This can make them better suited to a heat pump and low-temperature underfloor heating.
Clear Wall Space
Removing the need for radiators in suitable rooms can provide more flexibility for furniture, kitchens and interior layouts.
Choosing the Right Underfloor Heating System
Electric and wet underfloor heating can both provide comfortable floor-level heat, but they usually suit different projects.
Electric systems use heating mats or cables powered by electricity. They can be practical for bathrooms, kitchens, en-suites and individual rooms where a simple, low-profile installation is required.
Wet systems circulate warm water through pipes beneath the floor. They are commonly used for new homes, extensions, large renovations and complete properties.
A wet system normally requires more detailed coordination with the floor construction, manifold, controls and central heat source. An electric system may be simpler, but its output, electrical supply and likely running pattern still need to be assessed.
We compare the available options based on:
- Total heated floor area
- Required heat output
- Floor construction and available depth
- Insulation level
- Intended hours of use
- Final floor covering
- Existing or planned heat source
- Installation budget and long-term use

Local service coverage
We provide heat pump compatible underfloor heating across Dublin and the surrounding Leinster counties.
Design the Underfloor Heating Before Choosing the Final Floor Build-Up
Heat pump underfloor heating should be planned before the insulation, screed depth and finished floor levels are confirmed.
The amount of heat entering a room depends on more than the pipes. It is also affected by the insulation beneath the system, pipe spacing, water temperature, screed, floor covering and available heated area.
Late changes can result in:
- Insufficient installation depth
- Different floor levels between rooms
- Reduced heat output
- Poor manifold access
- Long or impractical pipe circuits
- Conflicts with kitchen units and fixed furniture
- Unsuitable floor coverings
- Higher operating temperatures than expected
It is also important to confirm who is responsible for the heat pump, underfloor heating, electrical controls and final commissioning.
If different contractors are involved, the system requirements should be agreed before installation begins.

faqs
Does underfloor heating work well with a heat pump?
Yes. Wet underfloor heating can work effectively with a suitable heat pump because its large heated surface allows it to distribute warmth using relatively low water temperatures. The system must still be designed around the property’s calculated heat loss.
Can I connect a heat pump to my existing underfloor heating?
Possibly. The existing system must be assessed to confirm its pipe layout, heat output, controls, flow rates and required water temperature. The building’s heat loss and insulation should also be checked before changing the heat source.
Do I need underfloor heating in every room?
No. Some properties combine underfloor heating with suitably sized low-temperature radiators or other heat emitters. The complete system must be designed so each room can receive enough heat at the selected operating temperature.
Is heat pump underfloor heating suitable for an older home?
It can be, particularly when the property is undergoing insulation upgrades and floor renovation. Suitability depends on heat loss, floor construction, available installation depth and the amount of usable heated floor area.
What temperature does underfloor heating use with a heat pump?
There is no single temperature suitable for every property. The required flow temperature depends on the heat loss, pipe spacing, floor construction, floor covering and desired room temperature. It should be calculated as part of the system design.
